In 2017 their son, Ranjit and daughter Navjot took over the business and their parents retired.
Since the kids had always participated in the family business as they were growing up, it was a natural transition.
They had personally put in thousands of hours of cleaning work, hired and trained managers and employees as they were groomed to take over the company.

Vandna Sharma started working with Evergreen Maintenance in 2017. She worked hard and learned all the cleaning systems and protocols the company uses to provide superior business cleaning services for their clients.
After the company helped her get permanent residency in Canada, her parents came to visit from India. They were greeted at the airport with bouquet of flowers from the CEO. After a few days, the CEO himself, Ranjit Takhar, took the whole family out to dinner.
Each member of the Ranjit’s family took time out to send greetings and meet with Vandna and her parents personally.
Living in India, Vandna’s parents had been worried about how she would manage so far away, in a new country by herself. But after meeting Ranjit and his family and seeing how they took care of their daughter, they were completely comfortable and proud of the company she is working with.

Vandna Sharma currently manages about 20 people in the company. She feels confident in her job because she knows if she needs anything, help is just a phone call away. The CEO, other managers and even the CEO’s parents are always available to provide whatever resources she needs.
This confidence flows into her responsibilities as manager. She is able to make plans and promises to her employees that she knows she can keep. If she and her cleaning crews do a good job, she knows the upper management will notice and they will all be recognized and rewarded.

Detailed Training Means Better Commercial Cleaning Results
All new hires go through rigorous security clearances appropriate to the site.
Employees get on the job training to ensure the safety of the staff and they learn all the measures needed to ensure security of the building.
When Vandna gets a new person on her team, all the documents are ready on the first day. She personally goes to the location with the employee, gives him or her a tour of the facility, where all the janitor’s rooms are, as well as the requirements and areas that need special attention.
Every building and office space is different. Vandna personally reviews the facility with each member of the crew and provides a written orientation for that particular building.
If someone needs training on the correct way of operating equipment, handling bio-hazards, chemicals or special situations in the building, she personally trains and supervises the staff until she knows they can comfortably do the work flawlessly.
All employees under her care work as a team, supporting each other when extra work is needed or they need to take care of personal business.
In order to make sure all the work gets done properly, despite personal situations, Vandna has several employees available on a part-time, as-needed basis.
Regardless of whether the building needs special handling or someone gets sick, Vandna is always ready with fully trained staff to get the job done quickly and professionally.
Personally Rewarding Accomplishments
A couple of years ago Vandna hired Doug Kavanagh. Doug is a young man who had experienced a rough time in past jobs due to his ADHD. He moved from job to job, never feeling satisfied.
When Vandna started getting complaints from other staff and clients, she looked at the situation carefully and realized that he was actually a very intelligent, caring person. There was no reason he couldn’t do the job.
After some experimenting, she developed detailed checklists and a special schedule for Doug.
The checklists allowed him the independence to work at his own pace and make sure everything got done.
His schedule was changed so he got a break from time to time so he could check his phone or do something else for a while, and then go back to concentrate on his cleaning duties.
Vandna found that Doug was very careful about doing things right and diligently made sure all his responsibilities were handled on time.
It has been more than a year now and Doug is one of her best employees. He got a raise and recognition in the company and is being successful in his life.
A little caring in the training resulted in a great personal accomplishment for both Doug and his manager.
