Clinic Disinfection Throughout The Day Is Vital To Prevent The Spread Of Infectious Disease

Medical facilities, by their very nature can be prone to the spread of diseases.  Disinfection is vital to prevent the spread of infectious disease, but often, veterinary staff is either unaware or unclear about proper sanitation.

You may not be using the right products or not cleaning and disinfecting surfaces correctly in between patients.

Hiring the hardest working, specialist veterinary office cleaning services company won’t be able to keep your staff, patients and their owners safe if correct procedures are not followed throughout the day.  , might make all that hard work moot, and could leave your clinic open to an outbreak.

In busy facilities, cleaning and disinfection tasks can get overlooked. In fact, in a recent study, 30% of hospitals did not clean cages between patients.

Work with your veterinary office cleaning company as a team and point out areas to clean that they may not have thought of.  And let them advise you of practices that help keep your veterinarian practice stay clean and healthy throughout the day when the office cleaning company is not there.

Cleaning Versus Disinfection

Proper cleaning of a veterinary clinic is good and it is important.  It makes your office look and smell better.

But simple cleaning is not enough because it doesn’t necessarily kill all the pathogens that can cause problems for pets and humans.

To properly sanitize surfaces in a veterinary office cleaning facility you have to clean and disinfect using a three-step process.

The Three-Step Disinfection Process A Specialist Veterinary Clinic Cleaning Services Will Follow

Step 1:

Physically and mechanically remove organic material (feces, urine, blood, respiratory secretions, and dirt).

Step 2:

Thoroughly clean all surfaces including the floor, walls, kennel, and play areas with soap or a general cleaner.  Then rinse, and dry.

Once the surface is clean and dry, apply the disinfectant and allow it to sit for the required contact time.  Every disinfectant will have its own protocols.  Be sure you know what they are and follow them exactly.  (A specialist veterinary office cleaning services company will know what to do).

Step 3:

Rinse away the disinfectant with a damp cloth and dry the area well.

IMPORTANT:

You must remove all organic material before applying a disinfectant. This includes soap in addition to dirt, feces, and other material.

You have to really rinse off the soap thoroughly.  Spraying a disinfectant on top of soap will deactivate a lot of them.

In addition, you have to remove all the water from the surfaces the disinfectant will be applied. If you have diluted the disinfectant a specific concentration and you spray it onto a wet surface, you’re diluting it more.  The wrong concentration of a disinfectant won’t be able to fight off the pathogens.

Best Practices For Kennel and Animal Containment Cleaning and Disinfecting

  1. Remove all animals, bedding, toys from kennel.
  2. Rinse inside & outside of kennels with water to remove any large, visible messes.
  3. Apply the right foaming sprayer to all surfaces inside of kennels, starting from bottom and working to top.
  4. If necessary, agitate sprayed areas with a deck brush. Leave the foaming cleaner on all surfaces for5-10 minutes then rinse with clean water.
  5. Spray concentrated hospital grade disinfectant, deoderizer, and cleaner on the inside and outside of kennels, working top to bottom and back to front. Be sure to cover all six surfaces. Spread evenly with a cloth.
  6. Allow surface to remain wet for at least 10 minutes or air dry.
