Indigenous Partnerships at Evergreen Building Maintenance

Building Stronger Communities Through Partnership

At Evergreen, we believe real partnership starts with respect. We’re not here to talk at you. We’re here to listen, to learn, and to build something that lasts.

We’ve worked across Canada for over 35 years, and we know every community is different. That’s why we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. When we work with Indigenous communities, we take the time to understand what matters most, then we find ways to grow together.

Our goal is simple. Create real opportunities. Support long-term success. And build strong relationships that benefit everyone.

Want to talk about what partnership could look like in your community? Reach out to our Indigenous Engagement Team. We’d be honored to connect.

Our Commitment to Indigenous Inclusion

Evergreen has been serving communities across Western Canada for over 35 years. From small towns to big cities, we provide cleaning and facility maintenance services that people can count on. But our work isn’t just about buildings. It’s about people.

When we say we’re committed to Indigenous inclusion, we mean it. Not as a policy. Not as a trend. But as a relationship, we’re proud to build and grow.

Reconciliation is not a checkbox. It’s a journey we’re walking together.

We know that true partnership takes time. It means showing up early, being honest, and staying committed for the long run. We don’t come in with all the answers. Instead, we ask questions, we listen, and we shape our work around what each community needs.

Our promise is to:

  • Support long-term job opportunities and training
  • Work with communities, not just in them
  • Build trust through consistency, transparency, and respect

We’re here to do the work—and to keep doing it. Because partnership should never be a one-time thing.

Land Acknowledgement

We don’t take the land we work on for granted.

Evergreen operates across Canada, and every site we step onto sits on traditional Indigenous territory. That matters. So we acknowledge it, openly, honestly, and often.

Our head office is located on Treaty 4 land, home to the Cree, Saulteaux, Nakota, Dakota, Lakota, and Métis peoples. And in every region we serve, we take time to learn whose land we’re on and how we can show real respect.

But acknowledgement is just the start. What matters more is what we do next.

We honour Indigenous stewardship by showing up differently. By listening. By building real partnerships. And by doing the work that reconciliation calls for, not just once, but every day.

This is about more than words. It’s about action. And we’re committed to both.

Meaningful Engagement in Practice

We don’t believe in one-way conversations.

Real engagement starts early. Not after the paperwork is signed. Not after the decisions are made. At Evergreen, we sit down with communities from the start so we can listen, learn, and build the right path forward together.

Every Nation is different. What works in one place might not work in another. That’s why we don’t follow a script. We show up with respect, ask questions, and adjust based on what each community needs.

We also train our team to do the same. Because understanding culture and protocol isn’t optional. It’s essential.

Here’s what meaningful engagement looks like at Evergreen:

  • Early conversations that shape how we work
  • Respect for traditional knowledge and leadership structures
  • Flexible approaches based on local priorities
  • Staff training that goes beyond the basics

We’re here to build trust and that starts by showing up the right way.

Reconciliation in Action

We don’t just talk about reconciliation. We build it into how we work.

Evergreen is committed to Call to Action 92 from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. That means doing three things well: building respectful relationships, creating real job opportunities, and educating our team about Indigenous history and rights.

We also follow the principles of UNDRIP. Not because we have to. Because we should. These standards help guide every decision we make from hiring to procurement to policy.

Here’s what that looks like at Evergreen:

  • Hiring Indigenous team members and supporting their growth
  • Choosing Indigenous-owned suppliers whenever we can
  • Training our staff to understand the past and show up better today
  • Updating internal policies to reflect our responsibility to do better

Reconciliation isn’t a side project. It’s part of our business and part of who we are becoming.

Affiliations and Certifications

We know that real trust comes from being accountable.

That’s why Evergreen works with recognized Indigenous business networks. These partnerships keep us on track, open doors for collaboration, and help us keep our promise to do better every step of the way.

We’re proud to be connected with:

  • Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB)
  • Canadian Aboriginal and Minority Supplier Council (CAMSC)
  • Other regional Indigenous business and economic development groups

We’re also working toward certifications like PAIR that show we’re serious about Indigenous inclusion, not just in theory, but in practice.

These aren’t just logos on our website. They’re a way to measure our progress, stay transparent, and build stronger partnerships across Canada.

When we hold ourselves to higher standards, everyone benefits.

Looking Ahead

We’re not slowing down.

The future of Evergreen is rooted in partnership with Indigenous communities leading the way. We’re building something better by staying open, staying honest, and staying committed.

This isn’t a side project. It’s a core part of how we grow.

Here’s what’s next:

  • More community-driven projects
  • More Indigenous voices shaping how we work
  • More transparency about what’s working and what’s not
  • More training, more opportunity, more impact

We’re here for the long haul. And if you’re looking for a partner who backs up their words with action, we’re ready to talk.
