Workplace Safety

Our company only hires staff with previous janitorial experience. Even so, every new hire is put through an extensive commercial cleaning training program. The program is designed to suit the needs of the particular job site, including knowledge of where all first-aid kits and eyewash stations are located.

Supervisors encourage employees to record all injuries that occur onsite. Potential hazards and precautions are to be noted and personal protection equipment is provided. We also teach new employees how to operate special equipment such as floor scrubbers and pressure washers.

At Evergreen Building Maintenance, when it comes to workplace safety, we adhere to the premise of being proactive rather than reactive. We work diligently to address workplace safety and security concerns before they become problems.

As part of this process, we employ assessment tools which have proven to be a valuable managerial tool for evaluating staff performance. These assessments are implemented weekly or monthly, depending on the type of contract in place. Grading is passed on to managers, while employees are provided with constructive feedback on how to continually improve building maintenance standards.

WHMIS Program

  • Education on the hazards of controlled products.
  • Outlines procedures for safe handling, storage, and disposal of WHMIS controlled products.
  • Outlines emergency procedures to be followed in the event of accidental exposure, spillage or emissions where MSD* Sheets are kept.
  • The program is reviewed annually with all long-term employees and as needed for new employees.
  • Following commercial cleaning training, new employees are not allowed to work alone and are required to have a supervisor present until they have received proper WHMIS education.

FAQ

Every team member goes through hands-on training to learn the right way to clean, sanitize, and use equipment safely. We cover everything from chemical safety to how to properly clean up biohazards, plus how to use commercial tools like auto scrubbers and HEPA vacuums.

Yes, absolutely. Our staff are trained in proper biohazard procedures, things like using PPE the right way, safely cleaning up blood or bodily fluids, and disinfecting areas to stop bacteria from spreading. We make sure everyone’s confident and prepared before they’re ever on-site.

We use colour-coded tools and clothes for different areas. For example, red is for toilets, blue is for mirrors, yellow is for general surfaces, and green is for touch-ups. This keeps things clean, safe, and sanitary throughout the building.

We look for people who are dependable, professional, and ready to learn. All new hires go through background checks, must be insurable, and need to either have or commit to getting WHMIS certified. We also check references and make sure they’re a good fit for the job.

They sure do. Our team is trained on all kinds of commercial equipment, including floor scrubbers, extractors, and HEPA vacuums. Before they ever use anything on-site, they’ve already practiced with it and know exactly how it works.

If anything goes wrong, like a spill, safety hazard, or broken fixture, our team reports it right away. There’s a clear process for letting supervisors know so it gets handled quickly and doesn’t become a bigger problem later.

Not at all. Training at Evergreen happens all the time. We keep our team up to date with safety refreshers, equipment updates, and regular site check-ins to make sure everything stays on track.

We focus on doing the job right the first time. That means giving our team real training, supporting them with experienced supervisors, and making sure everyone follows the same systems. It’s all part of why so many clients trust us year after year.
